System requirements
What ReClaim needs to run, and a plain-language explanation of every permission it asks for.
Compatibility
- OS: Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer
- Device type: Phones and tablets, no root or unlocked bootloader required
- Storage: Under 50 MB for the app itself
- Connectivity: Not required for any core feature. Only used if you opt into cloud backup
Permissions, in plain language
ReClaim only requests permissions tied directly to a feature you can see and use. Here's what each one does and what happens if you skip it.
Usage Access
Lets ReClaim read how long you've used each app, entirely on-device. Powers app-limit tracking and "block together" suggestions. Without it, blocking and hiding still work, but limits can't be enforced and suggestions won't appear.
Accessibility Service ("System-wide blocking")
Lets ReClaim detect when a blocked or limited app is opened from anywhere, Recent Apps, a notification, another launcher, and close it. Without it, ReClaim can only enforce blocks through its own interface, and you'll get a notification instead of an automatic close when a limit is hit.
Notifications
Delivers App Reminder alerts and limit-reached notifications. Without it, those moments are silent.
Unrestricted battery usage
Stops Android's battery optimization from pausing ReClaim's background enforcement. Some manufacturers are aggressive about this by default, without it, blocking can silently stop working after your phone has been idle for a while.
You can set ReClaim as your launcher and use its calm home screen and app list with zero extra permissions granted. Everything above only matters once you turn on a specific feature that needs it.
